Bucks at the European Championships

Posted on: April 10th, 2024

Day 1 at the European Championships was a very good day for Bucks. Siblings Ethan and Estelle van Leeuwan both playing in their first senior Europeans won all their opening encounters to progress through to the last 16 here in Saarbrucken.

Callum Hemming, also a Bucks player, partnered Estelle to a close three set victory over the No 8 seeds from Denmark and then went on to join forces with Ethan to defeat a good Polish pair in the mens doubles.

Estelle also claimed a shot at the No 2 seeds in the ladies doubles when she and partner Chloe Birch won a straight sets victory over their Ukrainian opponents.

At the time of writing, with Bucks highest ranked player Sean Vendy still to start his mens doubles campaign things are looking positive on all fronts for our players.

To help keep things tight at the top Bucks Chairman, Mark Lawrence, is leading the Yonex Stringing Team. Of the 250 rackets in so far, England have given us the most work Р42 rackets, well  ahead of France and Germany at around 30 each. We must just be hitting it harder!
